So the man who allegedly destroyed Vootie and started a cultural
upheaveal in the funny animal world - unintentionally- is back.
What can one say but - It's about freaking time!
But can one go home again? Reed's timing to test the 'Omaha' waters I believe are perfect. The moral mentality that exists today is darn near a close match to what existed 20+ years ago which prompted Reed to begin the Omaha saga.
Re-awaking Omaha might just shake things up again. This fan
hopes things work out to continue the story.
On the down side, our little group has already worked out who took out State Senator Bonner. Now Reed and Kate come along and might spoil all our hard detective work...sigh.
I wonder how many people finished the story their way.
As for interest in Omaha I can say that there is a lot out there. I wore a very old and faded Omaha T-shirt to the state fair this last summer, the belly dancer one, and people kept asking where I got it. They thought they could buy one at the fair. Betty Boop T-Shirts yes...Omaha No.
Given half a chance Omaha could be active once again.
As for the artwork Reed, don't be depressed about how old it looks. I enjoyed watching Omaha evolve over time. (And am sure you've learn to draw feet really well by now...cough. Everyone's a critic.)
As soon as I figure out what I want in a Omaha drawing I'll email you the concept.

If I wanted to be "the man who destroyed Vootie," I'd have to get in line behind Larry Becker, and several others as well. The truth is, by the time I took over, the Vootie membership had splintered, and Rowrbrazzle and several furry fanzines were already going, taking up a lot of the slack. Many of us felt that Vootie had served its purpose, by reviving active interest in funny animals, and if other people wanted to take over now, fine.

Maybe you can go home again, at least to visit for the holidays, no matter what thomas wolfe says. Kate and I feel that it is a good time to revive Omaha ... we think it might be a good relief from the childishness and brutality of so much of today's entertainment, to have something humanistic again. Especially when, like you say, the political pendulum is swinging back to the left again, slowly but surely.

Yes, that's a pony tail, just like every over-the-hill hippie wears. And no, that's not a clip on tie, I was in the Boy Scouts, I can tie a full or half windsor just fine, and i've been dressing myself since i was 30.

Reed, I just wanted to say I've been a huge fan of Omaha for years. I hadn't really thought about the book in quite a long time, since about a year after I bought Volume 2 #3.

I've been waiting for a while now to find out if Omaha would ever resurface.

Now I hear rumors that Omaha may be collected again by Les Associates Humanoides (Humanoids Publishing)? How much truth is there to this? It was pointed out by Rich Johnston in his Lying in the Gutters column this week. You can read it here:

I know Kate's condition in recent years hasn't been the best, but I'm keeping up hope that I'll see one of my favorite comics of all time brought back to life even if it's just in reprints.

Contract negotiations with Les Humanoides have been going for almost a year now. This is a complicated deal, involving the contracting of all print and media licensing with Les H. The immediate object of the deal is a complete trade paperback collection of the Omaha saga, in color, including 92 new pages, to wrap up the story. But it is a blanket agreement, anticipating things like merchandising and film rights.

It is true that Kate's health is problematic, and for that reason we have been pushing for (1) conclusion on this agreement, and (2) good advance money, against the possibility that Kate may not be around to see the books hit press.

Both Kate and I frequent the CAT-DANCING-WITH-OMAHA Yahoo group, so you can check in there from time to time.

Dear Motif, Dear Mr Waller

I know this might sound trite and unconvincing, but I have been trawling the net for years (work years that is) and that omaha belly dancer t-shirt has become my obsession. I owned one when i was a wided eyed university student in Brisbane Australia back in the day. It was my favourite tshirt then and sadly it still remains to this day. Sadly because i lost it many many moons ago and like a long lost love it still haunts me....

I need that tshirt again.

Any suggestions?

I have even considered buying a litho i found on yahoo auctions and getting it printed onto a similar vessel, but that is maddness. But perhaps just so crazy it might work.

It was a work of art that tshirt. It was something else.
